Louisiana (NBC33) — State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says two families and one church congregation are without their homes today due to Arson.
The State Fire Marshal says fires were started in Buras, Logansport, and Plaquemine. When firefighters brought the first blaze in Buras under control they saw the home had been burglarized. Authorities believe the fire had been set to try to cover up the crime.
In Logansport, it was the First Baptist Church. They say the Sanctuary was destroyed. Firefighters say they were able to fight the fire and save the Fellowship Hall.
In Plaquemine, the Fire Marshal says two people were asleep inside a mobile home and managed to escape the fire. Fire Officials believe it was intentionally set because of an ongoing dispute over drugs. Investigators are looking for Christopher James Thomas, 23; He is accused of committing aggravated Arson in the Plaquemine Fire. They have no suspects in the other fires.
