A man who has been implicated as a suspect in the murder and dismemberment of a 22-year-old woman is being extradited due to a parole violation. Officials in Hancock County say it’s a move that will not affect their investigation.

Terry Speaks was extradited for failing to register as a sex offender in Louisiana. Speaks is a convicted sex offender in North Carolina. He has been living in Louisiana for at least the past several months with girlfriend Margarate Sanchez, who has been charged with Harboring a Sex Offender.

“It shouldn’t affect anything,” Glenn Grannan, Chief Investigator Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, explained. “He’s not going anywhere.”

Both Speaks and Sanchez were the last two people to see Jaren Lockhart alive. They were captured on surveillance video leaving the club where Lockhart worked and walking with her down Bourbon Street.
Lockhart’s body washed up on a Mississippi beach in Hancock County a couple of days after she was reported missing on June 6, 2012.

Although Speaks and Sanchez both face unrelated charges, neither have been formerly charged for the Lockhart investigation. Investigators are hoping to find stronger evidence before making any final conclusions.

“We’re looking at a few other things as well,” Grannan noted. “We are still trying to locate a couple of people we would like to speak with.”

The biggest piece of evidence investigators hope to locate is a murder weapon. They have searched the water where they believe Lockhart may have been dumped, but so far those efforts have proved unsuccessful.
