Suspect in Bourbon Street shootings may be career criminal
NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — The New Orleans Police say they have identified a suspect who opened fire in a crowd on Bourbon Street in the early morning on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Marvin Carter, 19, for the shooting death of Albert Glover, 25, and wounding seven other victims. Police say Carter is approximately 5-foot-8, and weighs about 128 pounds. They also warn the public that Carter is classified as a possible career criminal.
Officials say Carter’s record includes prior arrests for six felony and six misdemeanor arrests. Carter has been arrested for Illegal Carrying of Weapons, Carjacking, Criminal Trespass, Contraband to Jail, Distribution of a Schedule 1 Non Narcotic and Warrants.
The murder victim, Albert Glover, was also classified as a Possible Career Criminal, due to five felony arrests, 17 misdemeanor arrests and 1 traffic arrest on his record. He was on probation for filing false public records in ’07 and ’09.
Glover had been arrested for Possession of Heroin, Possession of Oxycodone, Possession of Marijuana, Traffic Violations, Attachments, Resisting /Obstructing an Officer, Filing False Public Records and Warrants.
Detectives say it was through witness testimony that they were able to identify a Carter as a suspect. They now hope the community will also come together to help track him down.
“It’s crucial that residents keep their eyes open for Marvin Carter. I encourage them to call CrimeStoppers at (504) 822-1111 to tell us anything they know about the shooting, or the whereabouts of Carter. They will not have to give their names, and if the tip they provide us with helps lead to an arrest and eventual indictment of Carter, they could be eligible for a cash reward”, Superintendent Ronald Serpas, said.
