The suspect accused of kidnapping and raping a Baton Rouge woman at gunpoint was arrested this morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that Michael Rushing, 47, of Baker was booked into parish prison today for one count of Second-Degree Kidnapping and one count of Aggravated Rape.

Rushing is accusing of abducting a 22 year old woman at gunpoint from the Bone and Joint Clinic on Hennessey Blvd. on Friday, July 27. The victim says Rushing took her by vehicle to Iberville Parish where he then raped her. She says he then drove her back to Baton Rouge and dropped her off at the McDonald’s on Nicholson.

We’re told Rushing told the victim personal information about his life. Also, several tips from Crime Stoppers provided the additional information needed to identify Rushing as a suspect.

“The victim remained calm and remembered details about what he said and what he looked like, the interior of the vehicle the exterior of the vehicle,” Cpl. Tommy Stubbs, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “Ultimately that was what helped us quickly identify him.”

The Louisiana State Police and the Zachary Police Department assisted in the arrest of Rushing during a traffic stop on Rollins Road in Zachary.

Rushing was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
