Suspect arrested for false swearing in bogus kidnapping case

A Jefferson Parish man has been arrested after falsely reporting a kidnapping to get someone he owed money to arrested.

A search warrant was executed at a home in the 1000 block of Garden Road in Marrero, which was the address where the supposed kidnapping of Kynisha Kinney reportedly occurred.

Craig Trufant, 55, was arrested during the execution of the search warrant. Trufant was the man who initially reported the "kidnapping."

Trufant was taken into custody and booked with False Swearing, Possession of Crack Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia , Fugitive from Probation & Parole along with being a Fugitive from Gretna PD.

Statements obtained from a witness and Kinney herself stated thatndicated Trufant made up the bogus kidnapping call in order to get law enforcement to arrest a friend of the victim because Trufant owed the person money.

Kinney stated she was never kidnapped and was located by investigators in good health at Garden & Westbank on April 1 at 8:00 p.m. Kinney was arrested for an outstanding attachment.
