Suspect arrested after purse snatching in Lafayette

On December 19, 2012, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to a parking lot in the 4500 block of Johnston Street regarding a purse snatching incident.

According to the victim, she had parked her vehicle and was exiting when a black male approached her asking for the “time”. When the victim looked down, the suspect grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground. The suspect then climbed into a silver van and fled the area. The victim received minor injuries.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., the suspect was observed operating the van in the area of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Ridge Road. Police pursued the suspect for a short time until the van stopped in the 1000 block of Ridge Road. The suspect, who was later identified as Dylan Alfred, was taken into custody without incident. The van Alfred was operating was found to be the stolen vehicle from the incident on Foreman Drive.

Alfred was transported to the Lafayette Police Department and is currently being interviewed by detectives. The investigation remains ongoing.
