Street sign bandits caught in St. Francisville
ST. FRANCISVILLE, LA (NBC33) — West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's authorities have arrested those responsible for stealing street signs.
Richard Colby Sykes and James Dalton Morrison are now behind bars on felony theft charges. A third suspect is also facing charges. That name isn't being released because he's 16-years old.
The three are accused of stealing more than 60 signs throughout the parish.
About 20 of them were found in a field in Point Coupee Parish. Other signs may have been thrown into the Mississippi River.
The signs cost about a thousand dollars to replace, but St. Francisville's police chief says it could have cost someone their life.
“When these signs go missing - it damages and lengthens the response time to volunteer firemen, police, or sheriff's deputies - or more critically, EMS,” Scott Ford, St. Francisville Police Chief, explained.
Only about six signs were stolen in St. Francisville. All but one are back up.
More arrests are expected.
