BELLE ROSE, La (ASSUMPTION PARISH SHERIFF'S OFFICE) — BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) -- UPDATE:
Another twist today in the case of a grandmother found murdered in Assumption Parish. The Sheriff has arrested three family members - one is just 12 years old.
We're told the boy is a fifth grade student at Belle Rose Primary. Today, he is charged with first degree murder. The boy's father, Dean Hue Senior and his step mother, Raven Blanchard were also arrested last night for killing 84 year old Anna Mae Hidalgo this weekend. For Dean's mother, and the boy's grandmother, the arrests are a shock.
"My little grandson," Brenda Hue said while crying and shaking her head. "They took him away yesterday evening. He just told me he said 'maw maw I love you' and I said 'I love you too but we got a mess, you know.'"
Assumption Parish Sheriff's Deputies made the arrest Tuesday night, after Raven Blanchard confessed and implicated her ex-husband and step son.
The Hue's are related to the victim, Anna Mae Hidalgo. Dean Hue is her Great Nephew. He and his son knew her as Aunt Anna. The family lived just yards from Mrs. Hidalgo's home.
The boy's grandmother told NBC 33 News he had never been arrested before. But Sheriff Mike Waguespack says Dean Hue Senior is a convicted felon. He was just released on January 5th of this year, after serving time for a parole violation. Raven Blanchard also has an arrest history. She's been convicted of several misdemeanors including drug abuse and child abandonment. Now they are at the center of a capitol murder case, and could face the death penalty.
At Cajun Corner Cafe in Napoleonville, the Hidalgo murder and the Hues' arrest is all diners are talking about.
Dudley LeBlanc said, "I was astonished. 12 year old little boy, doing something that horrific is beyond comprehension."
But Mr. LeBlanc says there's peace here now, since an arrest was made quickly.
"If he did that, what else could he do? They might have another 84 year old somewhere that he's say well we got one why don't we get another one?"
Now Sheriff Waguespack wants the people here to not just remember the crime, but the woman who loved this place, and lost her life too soon."
