Store busted with over 18,000 packets of synthetic cannabis

GARYVILLE, LA (NBC33) — A man was arrested in Garyville when narcotics officers discovered that he was selling synthetic cannabis at his convenience store.
Deputies with the St. John the Baptist Sheriff’s Office along with State Police and the US Department of Homeland Security executed a search warrant at the Mike’s Convenience Store located at 2986 Highway LA 44. They obtained the warrant after receiving several citizen complaints about the establishment.
During the search, officers seized approximately 18,901 packets of synthetic cannabis (herbal incense), $7,646.00, numerous devices used for smoking and other drug paraphernalia used for distribution.
Ammar Zughayer, 36, of Gretna is the owner of the store and was arrested at the scene. He was booked with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Zughayer bonded out of jail Friday, March 16 in the morning on an $86,500.00 commercial bond.
The investigation is on-going, and more arrests are expected.
