EAST FELICIANA PARISH, LA (NBC33) — State Police have released the crash report in the Brett Gerald investigation. He's accused of being drunk back in May 30 when he slammed into a car in East Feliciana Parish.
In the report the officer includes narrative from the scene. When the officer asked Gerald if he had been drinking he replied “Miller Lite.” The officer then asked how much he had to drink, to which Gerald replied “less than a twelve pack,” and later clarified by saying that he drank “six or seven.”
Gerald told the officer that he started drinking at 3:00 p.m.
Gerald also indicated to the officer that he did not remember much from the crash.
Later, the officer noted Gerald’s reaction when told about the fatalities.
“I explained to Brett Gerald that five people had already died as a result of the crash and two more had received life threatening injuries and were in critical condition,” the officer wrote in the report. “Gerald looked surprised and stated, ‘Are you serious?’ I answered, ‘yes.’ Gerald kind of shook his head, sighed and said, ‘I don’t know what to,’ Gerald then mumbled something quietly that I couldn’t understand.”
Five people in the car died instantly; Brenda and Denise Gaines, 12 year old Diamond Johnson, six year old Jyran Johnson, and 36 year old Angela Mosely.
15 year old Willie Gaines Jr. and 13 year old Rogerick Johnson Jr. died days later.
