St. Landry Parish (NBC33) — A correctional officer with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office was arrested Tuesday for allegedly bringing contraband into the parish jail.
David Wayne Clark, 55, of Port Barre, was charged with introduction of contraband into a penal institution and malfeasance in office. He is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail.
According to Sheriff Guidroz, the Sheriff’s Office received confidential information about Clark smuggling synthetic marijuana, cell phones and tobacco into the jail.
Investigators say Clark admitted to bringing contraband into the facility on at least three different occasions.
Guidroz said “Contraband is an issue for every jail facility.”
The investigation is still underway. Police say more arrests are possible.
