BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — "I come home from work to see a body laid in the middle of the street no cover no nothing just out," said resident, Brent Brown. Evidence markers cover the ground where police found 18-year old Marvin Thomas. Witnesses say he was leaving this store around 5:00 pm near South 15th, when he was gunned down. They also say his body was left uncovered for over two hours.
"It was a normal day," witness Antonio Ben told NBC33. "I walked in my house, that's all I heard was gunshots."
Those were gunshots that dimmed a young man's bright future. "He graduated from high school and Marvin was a very cordial outgoing person," said Junius Thomas. He knows first hand. He's Marvin's uncle.
"Shocking. Just everybody in the community, everybody who came in contact with him--it's just deplorable. That was a terrible act." It was an act that stirred a mother's anguish, neighbors outrage, and the staunch reality that one more son isn't coming home.
Brown noted, "Got little kids out here, they aren't supposed to see this." Kids like one 8-year old we met, but was too afraid by the shooting to have his voice or face on camera. One reason residents say, the violence has to stop
"[You] Can't be scared when you live in this type of neighborhood," said Ben. "You've got to live to see another day. Somebody knew what they were doing."
Police urge anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 344-STOP. This is an ongoing investigation.
