Smirking bandit arrested in Lafayette for armed bank robbery

UPDATE: The Lafayette Police Department reports that an arrest was made in this case. Claude James Hebert, 37, of Franklin, was taken into custody on Tuesday, May 1.

Law enforcement officials with the Jeanerette Police Department recognized Hebert from surveillance footage and were able to take him into custody. Hebert was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. The case remains ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY: On May 1, 2012, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to the Iberia Bank, located at 2110 West Pinhook Road, regarding a bank robbery.

According to detectives, the suspect entered the bank and approached a clerk. He then produced a small revolver and demanded cash. The clerk turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect and the suspect then exited the front of the bank. The suspect was last seen entering a white older model white Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6’00” tall, medium build, wearing a blue blazer, glasses and a hat.
