A Shreveport man is arrested for suspected drunk driving and attempted murder after he rammed his vehicle into a police car during a pursuit early Sunday morning.

Bossier City Police were called to the scene of Barksdale Boulevard and Golden Meadows Drive around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, after receiving several complaints of a pickup truck running red lights in that area.

Police found Robert Joseph Abraham, II, 41, of Shreveport, heading northbound. Officers began to pursuit when Abraham refused to stop his car and continued north on Benton Road and out of city limits while running multiple red lights and attempting to run officers off the road.

As Abraham approached Vanceville Road, he intentionally rear ended an officer in a patrol car who had driven past Abraham in an effort to block the upcoming intersection and to keep motorists out of Abraham's way due to his risk to the public.

The collision caused the office to spin out and Abraham then rammed the officers car again. That caused Abraham's vehicle to lose control and to run off Benton Road and strike a gas meter causing a major leak.

The suspect then tried to speed off again but spun out and ran into a brick house on the corner of Vanceville and Benton Road.

Officers arrested Abraham on charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder of a police officer, DWI fourth offense and Aggravated Flight from Officers.

He was booked into Bossier City Jail.

The officer whose patrol car was rammed by Abraham was not seriously injured and Bossier Parish fire officials were called to the scene to stop the gas leak.
