Shreveport Fire Department employee arrested for theft of narcotics
SHREVEPORT, LA — A Shreveport Fire Department employee is behind bars this evening following an investigation into allegations of criminal activity involving the theft of narcotics.
In late July of 2013, officials with the Shreveport Fire Department contacted authorities in the Shreveport Police Department Command Staff and made them aware of possible criminal activity involving a member of the Shreveport Fire Department. Chief of Police Willie Shaw immediately ordered a criminal investigation into the charges and assigned detectives with the department’s Office of Special Investigations Bureau to conduct the inquiry.
Today, agents obtained an arrest warrant charging Michael Keener, 26, with one count of malfeasance in office and one count of prohibited acts all schedules; (acquiring a controlled dangerous substance by fraud). Malfeasance in office is defined by Louisiana State Statute as being committed when any public officer or public employee shall, “Intentionally refuse or fail to perform any duty lawfully required of him..." Based on information and evidence gathered during their in-depth investigation, detectives believe Keener stole narcotics from the fire department.
Keener, of the 300 block of Live Oak Drive in Atlanta, Texas, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on the warrant. His bond is set at $2,615.00
