Shots fired during group fight, one man shot

NAPOLEONVILLE, LA — On May 31, 2012 around 8:00 pm, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls in reference to a shooting on Railroad Avenue in the Village of Napoleonville where several shots were fired. Deputies arrived on scene within minutes. However, before deputies arrived, the victim was transported to Assumption Community Hospital by a friend.
It was determined that the victim was in an altercation the day before with a group of people. On this day the victim found the same group of people on Railroad Ave and a verbal argument ensued. At some point at least two individuals produced handguns and began to fire. The victim was struck twice. A stray bullet also hit a nearby residence and entered a bedroom where a young child’s bedroom.
The victim was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery. He was listed this morning in critical condition.
There are two persons of interest in the case and detectives are currently looking to speak to them. This is an ongoing investigation and a follow up news release will be made upon arrests of the individuals responsible.
