Sex offender compliance check nets six arrests

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA — In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 10, many convicted sex offenders in Tangipahoa Parish were awakened by the sound of law enforcement officers at their door.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office lead the effort consisting of dozens of law enforcement officers who were tasked with conducting compliance checks on area sex offenders and serving arrest warrants on individuals identified as non compliant sex offenders.
Officers were divided into teams and each team worked a specific area in Tangipahoa Parish. Officers possessed arrest warrants on twelve non compliant sex offenders. Six offenders were located and arrested during the round up. Additionally officers performed surprise compliance checks at fifty-three area sex offender's residences.
"Our goal in conducting these types of operations is to send a message to area convicted sex offenders that compliance with sex offender registration laws is expected and required," Sheriff Daniel Edwards, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, said.
Those arrested include Billy Joe Hart, David Lee Beauchamp, Kevin Lee Jarrell, Kelcy Williams, Zemmon Quillian, and Sedrick Watts.
"Convicted sex offenders are required to perform registration obligations, which includes providing accurate personal information to the public,” Sheriff Edwards added. “This round up is our latest attempt to insure that Tangipahoa Parish families have the information about convicted sex offenders that they need to keep safe."
