The sentencing phase is underway in a Texas courtroom in Smith County for grandparents who were found guilty of injury to a child on Tuesday.

Kenneth Neal Walker, 55, Shelley Walker, 60, were taken into custody in February.

The grandparents were convicted of placing their 2-year-old granddaughter into scalding water in a bathtub at a house on Aberdeen in Tyler.

The toddler was severely burned on her feet and ankles. She was flown to a Dallas hospital when the incident took place.

The prosecution is asking for life in prison, and the defense is requesting 5-10 years of probation.
