A former recording secretary charged with stealing nearly $2 million from the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice Commission pleaded guilty today to two counts of felony theft, announced Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

Brenda Bickford, 61, of Hammond, pleaded guilty as charged in Amite district court for her role in embezzling approximately $1.9 million from the Florida Parishes Juvenile Justice Commission between 2001 and 2010.

“Obtaining today’s guilty plea reflects the Attorney General’s commitment to maintain zero tolerance for any public corruption,” said Assistant Attorney General David Caldwell, who handled the case. “This kind of corruption greatly erodes the public’s confidence in government and public institutions.”

Bickford served as the commission’s recording secretary for 16 years before she was arrested in March of last year by the Attorney General’s Office.

Judge Jerome Winsburg has scheduled Bickford’s sentencing for September 7.
