Baton Rouge Police have arrested a second person in connection with an armed bank robbery in Mid City, Vernon Simmons, 30.

Detectives say they have DNA evidence from the "mask" worn by the bank robber that matches Simmons.

He's locked up on Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder of a Police Officer charges.

It's not the first time he's been arrested; he's been charged with Simple Battery, Disturbing the Peace, and has already pleaded guilty to Armed Robbery before.

He just got out of jail two weeks ago.

He has been arrested, along with Juaun Swanson, 23, who has also already served time for armed robbery.

On his way to jail, Simmons maintained his innocence and denied even knowing his alleged accomplice.

BRPD say based on DNA evidence, eye-witness accounts, and their investigation, they have enough evidence for the DA to convict both Swanson and Simmons.

Sergeant Don Stone stated, “It's unfortunate he's chosen bank robbery as a career, and unfortunately he's not very good at it.”
