BOSSIER CITY, LA — Bossier City police have charged the principal of a local elementary school with simple battery in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this week involving a 6-year old male student.
Police issued a citation to Curtis J. Melancon, 59, of Benton this afternoon following an investigation by detectives with the BCPD Juvenile Unit. Melancon is accused of placing an empty 32-gallon plastic trash can over a student at Sun City Elementary School where Melancon is the principal. The incident allegedly happened Tuesday after the boy was sent to Melancon’s office.
The child’s mother filed a complaint with Bossier City police on Wednesday after Melancon contacted the boy’s father the night before to inform him of what had happened. An investigation indicated Melancon placed the trash can over the boy for several seconds before taking it off of him.
Police issued Melancon a citation for simple battery after questioning him this afternoon at police headquarters.
