UPDATED: Wednesday, August 27, 2014 - 12:59pm

Walker Police said they're getting a lot of complaints about college-aged adults going door to door selling or claiming to be selling magazines. Either way, it's illegal to do in the city of Walker.

In 1976 the city adopted an ordinance banning anyone to go selling products door to door.

Police warn Walker resident that the "sellers" can be quite pushy and may ask for your personal information. If you feel uncomfortable telling them no, then police suggest telling the person what they are doing is illegal.

Police said if someone you're not expecting knocks don't open the door, and don't let the "salesmen" into your home. They could be checking out your home to come back and rob you later.

If one knocks on your door you can call police at (225) 664-3125.

This sounds very alarming. It is really true that scams are everywhere. Always be cautious about individuals selling stuff door to door, as a number are rip-off artists. Aside from Girl Scouts attempting to get individuals hooked on diabolically addicting cookies, there are a number of door-to-door scams out there. We must be very vigilant in situations like this.

The Walker Police Department thanks you for running a news story on this issue!
