BATON ROUGE, LA — A robbery in broad daylight at the LSU Lakes has some questioning how safe it is to run in the area.
Baton Rouge Police tell NBC33 that a female running the lakes around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon was robbed.
She told police two women jumped out of a car and told her to hand over her cell phone. When she didn't, they apparently beat her until she gave it to them.
Police say it's an unfortunate reminder to always be on your guard.
"It would be better for you to have at least one or two people with you. It just gives you a better feel,” stated BRPD Cpl. L’Jean McKneely. “Individuals who might want to take the opportunity to commit some crime on you, they're less likely to do that if you're paired up."
The woman received minor injuries.
Police say several witnesses came forward and they're working off several leads right now.
