HAMMOND, LA (NBC33) — A man was arrested for shooting a man in the leg for what is believed to be an extreme case of road rage.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened at roughly 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. Officials say the incident started when the 39-year-old of Ponchatoula, was driving down I-12.
The victim allegedly became involved in some sort of dispute with another driver, Jeremy Seth Cook, 31, of Springfield, for unknown reasons. Cook followed the victim off the Interstate into the parking lot of a Chevron gas station and confronted the victim.
The two men argued in the parking lot and at some point Cook went to his vehicle and grabbed a gun. He then shot the victim in the leg.
The victim managed to disarm Cook, but inadvertently shot himself again in the hand. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries.
Cook was arrested and charged with Second-Degree Battery. Officials say he could face additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation.
