Possible changes coming following Ville Platte Homicides

BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - — Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon had a press conference today a day after the tragic deaths of insurance fraud investigators Rhett Jeansonne, 39, and Kim Sledge, 44, at the hands of 67-year old John Lavergne. He express his grief for the families of both of the investigators and stated that Tuesday’s tragedy was one of the worst days of his life, ”yesterday was the darkest day in the history of the department of Insurance and I have a hard time thinking of a tougher day in my lifetime.”
Because of this darkest of days, he says his department is looking into policy changes. He didn’t go in to any specifics, but stated that this may include arming fraud investigators. Currently, If investigators feel as if they are in danger they can ask for the Louisiana State Police to assist them on a cal.
He promised that an incident like this will never happen again under his watch.
