Port Allen man fires gun at police officer

A scary moment in Port Allen after a man stole a gun, and then fired at a Police Officer. The man then tried to run, but was arrested after he was found by a K-9 unit.

On Monday, Oct. 3, a Port Allen Police Officer was flagged down by a motorist. The victim said a man reached into his car and took his gun. Not long after, the officer spotted a man who fit the suspect’s description. The man then fired the stolen gun at the officer, and the victim who reported the stolen gun.

The suspect, LeeDale Murphy, 26, of Port Allen, then tried to run from the officer, and did manage to get away in a residential neighborhood on Rosedale Road. A K-9 unit was called in, and Murphy was quickly tracked down. He was hiding in the back room of a home he had broken into.

Murphy was arrested and booked into the West Baton Rouge Detention Center. He’s been charged with one count Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, one count Possession of a Firearm in a Firearm Free Zone, one count Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon, one count of Aggravated Burglary, and one count Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling.
