Police: Suspect in custody for fatal hit-and-run that killed off-duty officer

NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — Officials say a suspect is in custody for causing a hit-and-run crash that killed an off-duty NOPD officer.
The car believed to be involved in the crash was located on Monday, July 8 at a Mid-City automotive body shop, located roughly a block away from NOPD headquarters. Police have not released any further details at this time.
The crash happened on Sunday, July 7 at roughly 1:00 a.m. Off-duty NOPD officer Rodney Thomas was involved in a minor traffic crash on I-10 near the high rise. When he got out of his car to check on the other driver, he was struck by a white Porsche Panamera.
