A violent crime spree in North Central Louisiana over the weekend of Dec. 29, ended with an officer shooting and killing the suspect involved.

It started with an armed robbery at a gas station around midnight in Ruston.

A short time later, police got a kidnapping call from a local Wal-Mart.

They identified the suspect as 22-year-old Joseph Glenn of Grambling.

They found him at the Hampton inn, and that's when police say he came at them with what looked like a gun.

"It looks exactly like a firearm,” said Albert Paxton of the Louisiana State Police. “There are no distinguishable marks on it for you to look at and say, 'OK, that's not a real gun.'"

"The officers did what was necessary. They were forced to do their job, and unfortunately, the suspect didn't survive," commented Steve Rogers, Ruston Chief of Police.

Glenn's gun was actually a realistic replica.

The three responding officers are all on administrative leave while the investigation is underway.
