Police seeking rape suspect who attacked victim while walking to school

New Orleans police are investigating a rape that happened about 6 a.m. on Tuesday while the victim was walking to school.

The sexual assault happened in the 3000 block of General De Gualle Drive in Algiers.

Police said the victim was walking to school when she was approached by a man who brandished a black handgun. The victim was forced behind the business, where the man sexually assaulted her and then fled toward the Crescent City Connection.

The man was described by police as a 20- to 30-year-old African-American, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, weighing about 200 pounds. Police said the man had a medium build and wore a black bandana, dark brown jacket, dark brown and black pants and white tennis shoes.
