Police identify person of interest for fatal shooting of NOPD dispatcher, her two children

A 39-year-old dispatcher for the New Orleans Police Department and her two children were shot and killed Wednesday night. Officials have identified a person of interest in the shooting and are asking for the public’s help to locate him.

Officials are searching for Shawn Peterson. Although they have not identified him as a suspect in the case, they do believe he could have information regarding the investigation. He is known to drive a white truck.

The shooting happened in the 4400 block of Jean Marie Place at roughly 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. When officers arrived on scene, they found the 39-year-old woman, her 18-year-old son and her 20-year-old daughter in the garage. They were all pronounced dead at the scene.

The 39-year-old woman has worked for the New Orleans Police Department since 2009 as a complaint operator.
