COVINGTON, LA (WDSU) — Police arrested a man this week in connection with a child cruelty case in Covington.
Covington police said St. Tammany Parish Hospital emergency personnel contacted them on Feb. 27 about a 15-month-old boy with second-degree burns and a fractured skull.
Police said that responding officers observed the baby and the burns and contacted detectives with the Criminal Investigation Unit.
After a two-week investigation in which detectives consulted with medical personnel, police said the baby's stepfather, Matthew Wrenn, 35, was arrested on a charge of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.
Police said Wrenn was arrested Wednesday and placed in St. Tammany Parish Jail.
Police said the baby is currently being treated at the East Baton Rouge Hospital Burn Center, where he is undergoing skin grafts.
