Ventress, LA (NBC33) — The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that a Ventress couple is in jail after an autopsy revealed that their three-month-old baby died of malnutrition in January 2014.
Jason Lutz and Ashley Cogar were taken into custody Monday morning around 9:20 a.m. and charged with Second Degree Murder. Their bonds are each set at $500,000.
The victim, Joseph Lutz, was born October 14, 2013.
After the baby's body was found, the Department of Children and family services removed three other children from the home.
Tony Clayton, Assistant DA, said the image of the baby is something he'll never forget: "I cradled under my wife in the fetal position when I went home. I'm still disturbed by it. So you can never become immune to seeing a dead baby. It's three months must have been hell on earth."
The couple is set to appear before a grand jury on Friday.
