Photographer files charges against Voodoo Fest performer
NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — Photographer Amy Harris declined to press charges against Odd Future member Left Brain after she says he slapped her across the face during the group’s performance at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans. Friday, Nov. 4, Harris returned to the Crescent City and filled out a police report for assault with the New Orleans Police Department.
The incident occurred Sunday, Oct. 30 after the hip hop collective Odd Future began performing around 4:00 p.m. Several photographers working that show claim they saw Vyron Turner, aka Left Brain, slap Harris, along with damaging equipment belonging to another photographer. However, at least one photographer says Harris was never struck, only her camera was knocked out of her hands, but was not damaged.
Harris originally declined to press charges, saying that she anticipated an apology. However, Odd Future and its management have denied the allegations. They say the only intention was to swat at cameras, not people.
Harris released an official statement on her website on Sunday, Nov. 6 in regards to her reason for filing charges.
“At this time, I do not wish to discuss the filing of the police report other than to say that, upon further reflection of events of the past week, it is something I needed to do. The week’s events have been extremely upsetting and culminated with an email from an unidentified person threatening to kill me and rape me and my family. While it is certainly possible that the email came from an overzealous fan of Odd Future, and not from the group itself, it has become clear to me that this is a matter for the police.”
Members of Odd Future, including Turner, were also in New Orleans at the House of Blues over the weekend. On Saturday, Nov. 5, they were there to support New Orleans musician Frank Ocean, who toured with the collective. Ocean did not appear with Odd Future at the Voodoo Experience performance. He is currently touring in support of his solo act.
