An Orleans Parish Grand Jury on Thursday returned a two felony-count indictment against Orleans Parish Juvenile Court Judge Yolanda King.

King, who was sworn in to the bench last June, is charged with one count of filing or maintaining false public records.

Additionally, she is charged with an election code violation for supplying false documentation to an election official.

The charges come from allegations that King submitted false residency information during qualifying, listing her home as an Orleans Parish address in order to run for the vacant juvenile court seat.

Prosecutors allege that King’s actual residence was located in St. Tammany Parish, where she owned a home and had been claiming a homestead exemption since 2007.

The Louisiana Attorney General's office is prosecuting the case after Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro removed his office from the investigation and prosecution of the case.

King is set to appear in Orleans Parish District Court on Monday for a bond hearing. An arraignment date has not yet been scheduled.
