OPD arrests 2 for crystal meth during traffic stop
Opelousas, LA (NBC33) — Opelousas Patrol Officers stopped a vehicle on I-49 South near Harry Guilbeau Road in reference to improper lane usage, on Wednesday evening at 11:30 p.m.
After interviewing the driver and passenger, the officer became suspicious and called a K-9 officer to the scene.
The K-9 alerted officers to certain substances in the vehicle. Officers located crystal meth inside of a small container.
The driver and passenger were both taken into custody.
Benjamin Fontenot, 39, of Breaux Bridge, LA, was charged with Improper Lane Usage, DWI Refusal, Possession of Crystal Meth, and Poss. of Drug Paraphernalia
James A. Sturgis, 48, of Arnaudville, LA, was charged with Possession of Crystal Meth and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Fontenot and Sturgis remain in the Opelousas jail.
