One dead after shooting in downtown Baton Rouge

UPDATE: Officials say the shooting was a targeted incident. We’re told the suspect walked up to the victim, Telly Heard, 21, and shot him in the head.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says the victim and suspect had an earlier altercation.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’5’-5’6” tall, heavyset (over 200 pounds), dark complexion, wearing a black shirt and dark shorts. We're told he jumped into an older model (approximately 2000-2006), four-door, black Chevrolet Impala and was driven from the scene by an unknown person.

Heard's older brother was allegedly shot and killed in the same area of town two years ago.

ORIGINAL STORY: One man is dead after a shooting in downtown Baton Rouge.

The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5. EMS workers confirm that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the Coroner’s Office was called out.

The shooting happened under the Interstate located near South 10th Street and Myrtle. The Baton Rouge Police Department is working this case.
