St. Martin Parish high-speed chase ends in Baton Rouge with arrest

Troopers, with Louisiana State Police Troop I arrested on Opelousas man for charges relating to a stolen vehicle and a pursuit which ended in Baton Rouge.

At 6:15 a.m. Troopers attempted to stop a Black BMW passenger car, which was traveling east on Interstate 10 near Breaux Bridge, for displaying a switched license plate. The driver, Anthony J. Pickney, Jr., 26, refused to stop for Troopers and lead them on a pursuit over the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.

After exiting the bridge the pursuing Troopers were joined by State Police Troop A, Ibberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit continued into the City Limits of Baton Rouge and ended when Pickney fled on foot near the intersection of Franwood and Landwood Streets.

With the assistance of the Baton Rouge Police K-9 unit and Air Support unit Pickney was located a short time after the pursuit ended. He was arrested without further incident.

Pickney will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail for Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Operation and Misrepresentation During Booking.

After being released from East Baton Rouge Parish Jail Pickney will be booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail for Unauthorized use of a Moveable, Aggravated Flight, Reckless Operation, Switched License Plate, Driving Under Suspension and No Seatbelt.
