Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reported that several burglary suspects were arrested on Jan. 19, after an off duty deputy saw them leaving a Hammond residence.

A few days earlier, on Thursday, Jan. 16, police responded to a burglary on Highway 445 in Loranger.

After investigating that burglary, officers obtained information and photos of the suspects.

On Sunday, an off duty deputy witnessed a group of people matching the description of the suspects leaving a home on Rufus Bankston Road. The officer saw the suspects drive away in a black 2014 Jeep with a Missouri license plate.

Other police officers found the suspects and immediately identified two of them as Louis Perry, 22, and Jarvis McKnight, 23, both of Hammond. Perry and McKnight had outstanding warrants and were taken into custody.

The other three occupants remained in the car while police investigated. Officers smelled marijuana and observed passenger Juan Jackson, 20, leaning over as if trying to hide something. Police later found a bag of marijuana on Jackson and placed him under arrest.

A search of the vehicle also revealed several items, including a handgun, that were reported stolen from the burglary.

The investigation is still ongoing.
