NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — A 13-month-old infant was shot and killed last night and her babysitter was also injured. Police are currently searching for the suspects responsible.
"These men took a baby's life, and wounded a young woman,” Superintendent Ronal Serpas, New Orleans Police Department, said. “They don't deserve to walk freely among the people of New Orleans. They must answer for what they've done."
The shooting happened at roughly 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 in the 2800 block of South Saratoga Street. Officials say the 18-year-old female was taking care of the child when gunfire erupted.
The teen ran into the residence after she and the baby were shot. Both were transported to a local hospital by EMS. The infant, Londyn Samuels was pronounced dead at the hospital and the 18-year-old is currently listed in critical condition.
Police believe two males are responsible for the gunfire.
"When these men opened fire, it was still early, and people were still out and about in the neighborhood,” Serpas said. “We need people to come forward, and tell us what they know."
