New Orleans police said a man was forced to hide underneath a home to avoid further gunfire after being shot at on Sunday night.

Police said the incident happened Sunday about 7:41 p.m. in the 3900 block of Louisiana Avenue Parkway in the Broadmoor neighborhood.

Police said a man was walking in the intersection of South Dorgenois and Louisiana Avenue Parkway when he heard several gun shots.

The victim turned around and observed a man clad in dark clothing shooting in his direction, police said.

The victim told police he attempted to run and was struck in his left leg and his left hand. The victim made his way to a house and hid under it for safety, according to authorities.

Once he felt it was safe, police said, he moved to a house on Toledano Street, where he called police.

Police said the victim was only able to give a broad description of the man, saying that he was African-American.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
