NEW ORLEANS, LA (WDSU) — NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Police Department arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of shooting four people in the 7th Ward on Wednesday night.
One of the victims in the shooting, which occurred just before 6 p.m. in the 2100 block of Elysian Fields, was a 12-year-old girl, according to police. A man and two women were also hurt by the gunfire, police said.
Investigators said three young men or teenage boys came out of an alley and started shooting.
NOPD Officer Chad Perez said he was patrolling nearby, heard shots fired in the area and relayed that over his radio. He said he saw two people run from the scene in opposite directions and pursued one of them.
The 16-year-old boy, who was not identified, was arrested a short time later. The NOPD is still looking for the other two assailants.
Police said the injured man, 20-year-old Jonathan Brown, was shot in his right shoulder. The two women were Donna Virgil, 18, and Leslie Brown, 24. Virgil suffered a gunshot wound to her thigh, while Brown was hit in her hip and jaw.
The 12-year-old was shot multiple times in both legs, police said.
All four victims were in stable condition and were treated for their wounds by paramedics.
