A man suspected to have injured a 7 week old child is behind bars tonight.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a 7 week old child suffering a head injury to the right side of the child’s head on March 29.

The child was flown to a hospital in New Orleans after he was admitted in Abbeville for further treatment; he is currently in critical condition.

Medical personal found a previous fracture of the child’s skull that was unrelated to the present injury. The first injury was never reported to any medical personnel or law enforcement agency.

Detectives collected evidence at the residence and statements from medical professionals on how the child had received the injuries. They found the father’s story did not coincide with the child’s condition during the examination.

Jason Boutte, 29, had an outstanding warrant for family neglect, which was not associated with the present incident; he was arrested.

Boutte was issued a separate warrant for Second Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile.

Detectives are continuing the investigation for possible involvement by other parties in this tragic incident.
