Neighbors react to shooting of three teens

Three people are still recovering in a Baton Rouge hospital tonight after an early morning shooting in North Baton Rouge.

One woman who lives in the area is still shaken by the drive-by shooting on the 3200 block of Elm Street. She did not want to go on camera because she worries she could be targeted.

The shooting left three teenagers, injured just blocks from her home Friday, Oct. 21.

"It's like we can't even come outside and do anything cause a bullet or something might pass through or something,” she said. “It's just rough.”

One of the three victims, a fifteen-year-old girl, is still in critical condition after being shot in the head. It's an all too familiar scene for neighbors.

"I just had a nephew killed about four years ago in our backyard,” the resident recalled. “It's just hard and rough."

Calvin Varise also lives just blocks from where the teenagers were shot and he says the solution to all this violence starts at home.

"If you've got children and you know you love your kids talk to your kids ‘cause tomorrow ain't promised to be here," Varise said.

This is a reality this mother of two knows all too well.

"I do have a seventeen-year-old and I be scared for him,” she said. “I don't care for him to be out here at night time, ‘cause it's too violent"

The Baton Rouge Police Department is still looking for those responsible for the shooting. If you have any information that can help with their investigation - please call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
