DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (NBC33) — A man who ran over a 6-year-old child in Denham Springs was arrested for Negligent Homicide after investigators learned that he was distracted by his cell phone when the incident occurred.

The Denham Springs Police Department arrested Brad Welch, 32, for the death of Tyler Myers.

On Sept. 12, 2012, Welch ran over his neighbor’s son as he was pulling into the driveway of his residence. Officials say an investigation revealed that Welch was distracted by his cell phone, which prevented him from seeing the child in the driveway.

Welch was booked in the Livingston Parish Detention Center. His bond is set at $25,000.
