A Napoleonville man was arrested Sunday evening after he ran over a four-year-old who was riding a bike.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, a Patrol Sergeant saw a Chevy Tahoe speeding southbound on Highway 1.

The officer made a U-turn in an effort to catch up with the speeding vehicle, but the truck increased its speed before slowing to turn onto Cancienne Road.

Still speeding through a residential area, the vehicle made a left turn onto Delaune Street and hit and ran over a four-year-old boy riding his bike.

The child was immediately air lifted to a Baton Rouge Hospital and is currently in stable condition with moderate to severe injuries.

After hitting the child, four people, including the driver, got the vehicle and ran from the scene into a wooded area.

Police caught three of the four people, including the driver, within 30 minutes.

After an initial investigation, a Louisiana State Police trooper arrested Larry Wiggins, 28, of Napoleonville, for Felony Hit and Run, Unlicensed Driver, DWI 2nd Offense, and First Degree Vehicular Negligent Injury.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff Patrol Sergeant booked Wiggins with Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Speeding (72 in a 50 mph zone) and Resisting an Officer.
