Mother’s fiancé arrested as person of interest in disappearance of 12-year-old Talaija
St. James Parish (NBC33) — Although the search still continues for 12-year-old Talaija Dorsey, St. James Parish Sheriff’s detectives have arrested the mother’s fiancé as a person of interest in Talaija’s disappearance.
On the morning of Tuesday, July 1, Talaija’s mother woke up and discovered that her daughter was not home. After searching her house and the homes of nearby relatives and not finding Talaija, the mother contacted police.
A coordinated search effort began that involved several law enforcement agencies from neighboring cities and parishes as well as concerned citizens.
Detectives also interviewed family and friends.
As the investigation developed, detectives arrested 42-year-old John D. Celestine as a person of interest. Celestine lives in the home with with Talaija and her mother.
Officers charged Celestine with Felony Obstruction of Justice and Reports of missing children, false reports or communications.
Celestine is currently being held at the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail in Convent, LA, awaiting bond.
Because of the potential for additional charges, police are not releasing further details of the investigation.
