COVINGTON, LA (NBC33) — A mother fired three rounds from a shotgun at an armed gunman who broke into her home early this morning.
The Covington Police Department reports that the incident happened shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5. We’re told the gunman broke into the home located in the Covington Country Club and woke the sleeping woman.
Officials say the victim screamed loudly when she woke to find the man standing in her doorway. He allegedly pointed a gun at her, so she began to scream, which caused the man to retreat from the doorway.
Reports indicate that the woman grabbed a shotgun that was located in her closet. She then went into her children’s rooms to check on them before pursing the fleeing suspect. Once the suspect was out of the doorway of the home, she fired three rounds in the man’s direction, but did not strike him.
Deputies searched the area and located Joseph Hall Rogers, 36. Officials say Rogers was intoxicated and resisted arrest, so they used a taser to subdue him.
Rogers was arrested and charged with Home Invasion and Resisting an Officer.
