The Baton Rouge Police Department made that arrest earlier. She has been taken into custody and will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
THIS IS AN NBC33 NEWS UPDATE: An autopsy on the one-year-old child came back on Monday, Oct. 24. Results show that the child died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, neck and extremities. The Baton Rouge Police Department filed additional charges of First Degree Murder for Randy Parker, who is the boyfriend of the child’s mother.
Parker was previously arrested when detectives discovered stolen items at the home where Parker was living.
Officials say the mother of the child has not been charged at this time.
ORIGINAL STORY (10-24-11; 1:51 p.m.) -- The Baton Rouge Police Department has launched an investigation due to the death of a one-year-old child. Three other children were in the home and officials say two of them also showed signs of painful neglect.
Police were called to the home on Erie Street on Sunday, Oct. 23 at around 6:00 a.m. The one-year-old boy was unresponsive and EMS responders were not able to revive the child. The infant was pronounced dead.
Officials tell NBC33 News that the mother of the infant admitted that she had spanked the child earlier. She told investigators that she checked on the child around 3:00 a.m., and that’s when she first noticed that the baby was unresponsive. She then waited three hours before calling for help.
Both EMS and Police officers noticed that the one-year-old child had bruises that seemed to suggest some form of abuse.
Four adults were in the home as well as three other children. Those children belonged to a different mother, but also showed signs of neglect. A representative with the Baton Rouge Police Department tells NBC33 News one child was suffering from a serious case of diaper rash.
When investigators began taking a closer look at the conditions of the home, they noticed several items that seemed out of place. Those items had been reported stolen, and a large amount of cash was also discovered throughout the house. All the stolen items were confiscated, and the three children were taken into protective custody.
Brandon Tate, 30, Randy Parker, 23, and Kierra Golman, 21, were all booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. An autopsy is being performed on the one-year-old child. Additional charges are pending the result of that autopsy.
