A deputy in Morehouse Parish was arrested for allegedly stealing funds he raised for a charity organization he founded.

On January 15, 2013, Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs requested the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations look into a complaint he received about unaccounted for funds raised by Little Angels of Northeast Louisiana. The organization was founded in 2012 by Quinton and Stacey Mewborn and was to assist families of children diagnosed with Ehlers Dandles Syndrome and OI disease.

At the time, Quinton Mewborn, 39, was employed as a Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy. He resigned from the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office on Saturday and was arrested in the morning on Monday, March 4.

Mewborn was arrested and charged with one count of Theft and one count of Conspiracy. He was booked into the Morehouse Parish Detention Center. If convicted on all charges he faces up to a $6,000 fine and up to 20 years in prison.

Stacey Mewborn, 37 years of age, is currently hospitalized but will be arrested upon release.

The investigation is ongoing.
