A Porte Barre woman has been charged with three counts of Medicaid fraud for filing false claims.

Hilda L. Demouchet, 44, surrendered to investigators from the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit on Tuesday. She was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Demouchet, a personal care attendant, is charged with submitting false timesheets to her employer claiming that she provided personal care services to a Medicaid patient on the same dates and times the patient was actually out of state. This resulted in the Medicaid program being falsely billed.

Personal care attendants are hired by Medicaid providers to care for physically handicapped or elderly Medicaid recipients. They provide caregiver services such as cooking, grooming, and bathing.

If convicted of Medicaid fraud, Demouchet could face up to five years in prison and pay up to $20,000 in fines on each count.
